Students were inspired to dress like Cat in the Hat during the reading festivities
First and second graders are exposed to all kinds of wonderful reading opportunities at Bell Elementary. On March 2nd they had met their goal and read 600 books total. In addition,they celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with an appearance by Cat in the Hat as one way to promote reading.
Even though students are not in their classrooms during the NTI days, reading is continuing to be a focus for elementary students.
Bell Elementary Media Specialist Nell Boils is going live every day on their school Dojo communications platform. She is doing a read aloud as well as doing some type of skill. For example, on April 8th, she read a book to the students at home, then did a brief lesson on biography.
“We are going to spend this month on biographies,” said Boils. “Students are to think of a famous person and put it on a list to return into their NTI packet. It is not mandatory, but I am highly encouraging them to do this.”
“Also, we decided both at Bell Elementary and Monticello Elementary to open up the Accelerated Reader Program to do at home just during these unique NTI days,” added Boils.
Students may take their comprehension quiz on line from home in order to secure points. It will be turned off the day students return to school.
