In correlation with Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the annual Big Blue Luncheon was recently held in the WCHS Library Media Center.

The event, which was held on March 24 from 11:00 to 1, was coordinated by WCHS school nurse, Amy Edwards.

The event originated as a way to promote awareness of the disease, raise funds for research, and honor those people who have battled the disease themselves or have had or currently have family members suffering from the disease.

A variety of foods were served at the luncheon including soups, sandwiches, and desserts. Attendees included faculty and staff from the high school, district employees, representatives from the Lake Cumberland Health Department, and representatives from Lake Cumberland Friends, an organization dedicated to helping families affected by colorectal cancer.

According to Edwards, the event raised about $360.
