Last weekend, the Wayne County wrestling team traveled to Lexington to compete in the KHSAA state wrestling tournament. The tournament was held for the third year in Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. Eighty-nine schools from across the bluegrass participated in the tournament. Seven wrestlers competed from Wayne County: Jacob Dodd, Trevor Edmonson, Cameron Nevels, JD Criswell, Cecil Nevels, Casey Mink and Devin Morrow. All wrestlers won matches during the competition and Wayne County finished 15th overall and 3rd in the small school division. The Wayne County Cardinals finished their season with 38 wins and 7 losses in dual meet action.

Senior, Devin Morrow, who finished as runner up in 195lb division at the tournament said he was happy with his performance.

“I wrestled a really good tournament. I think I performed my best the whole time. I just got out wrestled in the finals. I think it could have gone either way. The kid was good.”

Devin has a strong passion for wrestling and has been working on making it this far in the sport since he was very young.

“It was a blessing to get to wrestle in the finals. When I was younger, I thought those guys in the finals were unstoppable like super heroes. To be there was a great experience,” Devin added.
