Each class at Bell Elmentary attends the Library Media Center once a week for a 40-minute class period. We have storytime, a lesson/skill time and book check out. Students are exposed to different types of stories as well as learning many skills about books and the "set up" of the Library Media Center. The Library Media Specialists of Wayne County created a K-12 comprehensive curriculum a few years ago that incoporated different types of lessons in order for our students to become proficient in the use of the Library Media Center.
We also offer the Accelerated Reader program in our school. We have flexible checkout throughout the day, at designated times, for students to check out Accelerated Reader books. We have an extensive database with all AR tests as well as tests that correlate with the "Reading Street" reading series.
- FAMILY READING NIGHT
Family Reading Night is held each Monday evening, the second and third nine weeks, from 3:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Students can take AR tests or just enjoy some family time with books and magazines.
All students must be accompanied by an adult.
- BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB
My fall fundraiser is the Birthday Book Club. I will send notes home on the week of September 4th. If your child would like to join the Birthday Book Club, he or she can give a $5.00 or $10.00 donation to the Library Media Center. After giving the donation, your child may choose a new, pre-purchased book to have his/her name placed in the front of the book. The child will have their picture made with the book, and the photo will be placed on a bulleting board in the school hallway. The student will get a book mark to keep. Remember: your child is not buying a book; he/she is giving a donation to have their name placed in the book.
