More Information

The Wayne County Junior Conservation Board will host an Agriculture Conservation Field Day on September 10th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Red Barn Farms, Monticello (3 Miles out highway East 92 on the right). This event will be free to the public. We will start the evening with guest speakers, providing an overview of conservation practices implemented locally and regionally, followed by a wagon tour of the farm. Afterward, a meal will be served by the local Wayne County FFA Chapter including hamburgers made from fresh beef home-grown on the farm, chips, drinks, and dessert.

Information tents will be set up to share information on financial assistance available to implement conservation practices as well as other agricultural related financial assistance available for local producers. There will be lots of information for new farmers.

We will also have a Junior Farmer area, where youth can participate in activities with our Local 4-H Program Assistant Sherry Coffey while their parents are touring the farm. If interested, please RSVP to the Conservation District at (606)-348-9383, Extension 3252 by September 8th.

This field day is funded in part by a mini-grant as part of the US EPA sponsored project ‘Multi-State Collaboration to Improve Mississippi River and Gulf of Mexico Water Quality through Farmer-Led Initiatives and Farmer-Driven Data’, Award # 00D87719.

The Junior Conservation Board is a group of environmentally focused youth. The objective of the Board is to create opportunities for local youth to become involved in local natural resources issues, promote conservation projects in the community and develop youth leadership. Enrollment is open to youth ages 13-21.  If you want more information, call The Conservation District Office at (606) 348-9383.
