More Information

With in-person classes beginning next week, Wayne County High School will have a Self-Guided Open House – Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week from 9:00am - 3:00pm daily. Students have not had the opportunity to tour the new Area Technology Center, and many classrooms within WCHS have changed locations, therefore, the administration knows it is important for students to have the opportunity to come in and find their classes to be a little more comfortable before next week. In addition, an informative virtual tour of the new ATC can be found on the homepage of the school district website.

Masks are REQUIRED for all. Temperatures will be checked at the door. Everyone must enter through the Main Entrance. Maps will be distributed. Students need to make sure to have their schedule written down so they know what rooms they need to visit. This is also a great time to turn in any paperwork students may not have gotten to turn in. Keep in mind, teachers are working on new instruction and may not be available.

Chiari Malformation Awareness Day being recognized Contact
Walker Early Learning Center Teacher Amy Gregory

More Information

Several students and staff members on the Wayne County School campus have been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. There are different types of this condition and all the local individuals have different types. Those with this condition are asking everyone to wear the color Purple today, on September 25th to learn more about Chiari Malformation.

Chiari malformation (kee-AH-ree mal-for-MAY-shun) is a condition in which brain tissue extends into your spinal canal. It occurs when part of your skull is abnormally small or misshapen, pressing on your brain and forcing it downward.

Chiari malformation is uncommon, but increased use of imaging tests has led to more frequent diagnoses.

Doctors categorize Chiari malformation into three types, depending on the anatomy of the brain tissue that is displaced into the spinal canal and whether developmental abnormalities of the brain or spine are present.

Treatment of Chiari malformation depends on the form, severity and associated symptoms. Regular monitoring, medications and surgery are treatment options. In some cases, no treatment is needed.
