Virtual classes resume January 4th, with a return to hybrid Red and White alternating instructional day schedule planned for January 11th.

                       WAYNE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT COORDINATED SCHOOL HEALTH MEETING

                                                                          NOVEMBER 12, 2020

Zoom meeting was called to order by Patty Burton RN, District Health Coordinator.

 In attendance were Patricia Burton RN, District Health Coordinator, Shannon Foster, High School Teacher, Jessica Thrasher, Bell elementary teacher, Susie Cowan, Special Education Director, Telene Hancock, Central Office, Kathryn Tucker, Food Service Director, Shawn Stinson, Central Office, Brian Dishman, Curriculum Director, Audra Branscum, Youth Service Director High School, Emily Hesse, Parent/Community member, Aaron Hesse, student, Casey Holt, Food Service, Kevin Jones, Athletic Director, Ms. Gossage, Middle School Principal, Sandy Latham, Walker School Nurse. 

 New members Shawn Stinson and Jessica Thrasher were welcomed.  The minutes from last meeting approved with no corrections. 

Ms.  Burton encouraged all schools to invite staff interested in school wellness to be a part of their school wellness committee.  She encouraged virtual meetings if unable to meet in person. 

Ms. Tucker reviewed the results of each schools health assessment with discussion on selecting goals from the assessment to work towards improvement.  Stress management for staff as well as professional development for classroom teachers remain areas we need to work on.  Kathryn encouraged schools to let them know if they are addressing these areas so that the information can be included in the School Health Assessment results. 

Ms. Thrasher reported that Bell has been working on staff stress management with special recognition of teachers, school culture positive activities, improving staff lounge and staff restroom facilities, and faculty book share space. 

Ms. Burton expressed that if staff are interested in an exercise class that they may be able to provide a zoom exercise class.  Sharon Hill is also offering yoga classes and may be willing to do this thru zoom. 

Ms. Tucker reported that food service has been communicating their personal reasons they are here and suggestions to make their job better. 

Ms. Burton reported that Healthy Kids Clinic is available for Behavioral Health to staff.

Mr. Dishman reported need for Physical Education Teacher Professional Development. 

Ms. Gossage reported middle school is having several different sessions for parents on Infinite Campus and Parent Portal this week.  They will also do session on Google Classroom, and plan to continue to have a class once a week for parents in November and December.

Ms. Hesse expressed concern with timely response to emails from teachers to students, and asked for clarification for the best way to contact teachers.   There is a need for a solid line of communication during virtual learning.

The next meeting will be January 7, 2021 at 3:45 pm at the Board Office or Zoom if necessary.  Meeting adjourned. 

The Summer Food Service federal program will be providing meals to youth 18 and under. Families may pull up to the curb in front of the high school to receive meals the school cafeterias have provided.
