It’s never too late to earn a high school diploma since Wayne County has an excellent Adult Education Center that helps people obtain their GED.

“We provide small group instruction and individual tutoring to help people obtain their high school diploma,” said Adult Education Director Bill Roberts. “We are extremely proud of our 2012-2013 graduates.”

Over 50 local people had the courage and motivation to step through the center’s doors located on the East Highway 90 bypass, adjoining the Wayne County Schools Bus Garage, and ask for help in obtaining their diploma to better their lives. Students study Math, English, Reading, Social Studies, and Science. After progressing through their studies at their own rate, they are eligible to take the GED test over 7 hours in a two-day period. A very competent staff which includes: Elwood Bradley, Melissa Conn, Jeanie Hoskins, Beth Stinson, Wilma Upchurch, and Darren Vickery help change students’ lives.

On June 21st, a graduation ceremony was held for the graduates, complete with cap n’ gowns, diplomas, and a reception. One of the students, Michelle Crabtree, spoke to the crowd about their accomplishment and thanked the staff for their help.

Anyone wishing to complete their high school graduation may contact the center at 348-5286 for more information.
