The Wayne County Cardinals look to take on the Clinton County Bulldogs on Friday, August the 20th for their home opener. The last time these two teams went toe to toe was on Friday August 17th 2012 when Wayne County beat them 52-6. Since then the two teams have never faced one another and both programs have come along way since then. Wayne County has had numerous successful years, 2013 being the year that they made it all the way to the State Championship game in a narrow loss to Belfry to become State Runner-ups. Clinton County has also had numerous successful years. In 2018 they went 9-1 in the regular season and in 2019 going 7-4 and making it all the way to the district championship game but falling short losing 17-13 to Edmonson County. Both programs have come very far since 2012 and both look for greater heights in the years to come. For Wayne County, they got a new head coach in Tyler Guffey. Coach Guffey was the quarterback for the 2013 team when they made the run for State. He played football all throughout high school and has been on the coaching staff for years at Wayne County. Clinton County also has a newer face at Head Coach. Coach Rocky Tallent became the Head Coach in 2019 and has seen success early in his career. Coach Tallent went 9-7 during these last two years as Head Coach for the Bulldogs. Both of these programs have newer faces at Head Coach and look forward to playing against one another on Friday, August 20th at Wayne County. Come out and support your Wayne County Cardinals!!
