Schools do not just deal with academics. They are a community that provides a wealth of services to children and their families.
Even though all of the students are home studying remotely, the district did not want their students to miss an annual school event that everyone looks forward to in the fall. So, the food service and transportation department are partnering their services to make sure every Wayne County School student has the opportunity to receive a hot Thanksgiving meal, like they normally serve in the cafeterias for lunch, prior to the holiday. The staff just could not let this tradition slip by during the pandemic, especially when so many families are in need of meals or would appreciate the gesture.
So, this Thursday, November 19th, Wayne County Schools will be going the extra-mile to make sure that all of their students have the opportunity to receive this special meal.
Bus drivers will be delivering these meals to the students who are on bus routes during the afternoon bus runs, even though the students will not be on board. Meals will also be available to be picked up at the back of the Wayne County Middle School between 3:15-4:30 for all parent pick who sign up.
Parents have to sign up on a google form https://forms.gle/zR5mvu23tQDbe8Ax8 for each child. This special meal is only for students enrolled in the Wayne County School District.
In addition, the district’s normal curbside pickup will be operating on Friday November 20th for the rest of the week’s meals. They will also have a curbside pick-up at the middle school on Tuesday, November 24th to cover that week of Thanksgiving. The food service department is determined that no child will go hungry during the pandemic.
