Wayne County defeated Harlan County on the road

Congratulations to the Football Cardinals on beating the Harlan Black Bears 42-0 on Friday, September 18. That evens up the win-loss record to 1-1, after only one point short in the first game of the season with Southwestern at home on September 11. Braedon Sloan totaled 13 rushing attempts with 162 yards, scoring three touchdowns rushing. Brody Weaver made two touchdown pass completions with 108 yards passing, as well as 113 yards rushing with one touchdown scored rushing. Lee Shelton and Wesley Cares each contributed one touchdown pass reception while on the road in Harlan County.

 The Wayne County football team kicked off their season against Southwestern at home. The Cardinals fought hard against the Warriors but fell short in the end losing 42-41. Senior running back Braedon Sloan rushed for 294 yards on 29 carries and recorded 5 rushing touchdowns. Senior quarter back Brody Weaver threw for 92 yards and a touchdown against the Warriors defense. The Wayne County defense had a combined 62 tackles with Lee Shelton leading the way with 17 total tackles. Wayne County was also able to force two turnovers, they were able to recover a fumble and intercept the ball from Southwestern. Kicker Jack Kelsey went 5/5 of PAT's and his only field goal attempt was blocked at the line of scrimmage. The Cardinals will face the Harlan County Black Bears as they travel to Harlan on Friday September 18th. Kick off will be at 7:30pm so go out and support your Wayne County Cardinals!
