Lady Cards in action during Tournament play

The Lady Cardinals played two hard fought games this past week at the 48th District Tournament. Their first game, against the McCreary County Raiders, went well as the Cardinals won 86-61. Macey led the team in points, scoring 24 and Mallory led the team in rebounds with a total of 15. The Lady Cards then shifted their focus on the next opponent, Southwestern. Wayne County and Southwestern were 1-1 this year win playing each other. Southwestern won at their place and then lost when they traveled down to Wayne County. This District Championship was going to be a battle between two good teams, both wanting to be District Champions. Southwestern came out hot as they were leading 24-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Cards would continue to fight, and brought it within ten points before the half. In the second half, the Lady Cards continue fighting and fighting up until the buzzer went off in the fourth. The game had ended and the final score was 67-54 Southwestern. Southwestern would be the 48th District Champions and Wayne County would be the 48th District runner-ups. The Lady Cards fought hard till the very end and some of the players even got recognized for their efforts in the District Tournament. These are the players that made All-District Team, Macey Blevins, Haleigh Criswell, and Mallory Campbell. The Lady Cards also won in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament, upsetting the higher seeded Mercer County High School, winning 61-57. They will be back in action this Friday, March 6th against Rockcastle County and tipoff is scheduled to be at 8:00. So come out and support your Lady Cardinals!!
