WCHS Senior Halen Pharis performed in the 2020 All-State Concert Band at the Kentucky Performing Arts Center during the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference recently held in Louisville. He was the first Concert Band student at Wayne County in the past ten years to become an All-State KMEA student musician. Band Director Andy Critz estimated that his student ranked 15th out of over 1500 clarinet high school band members across the state.
"Halen is extremely talented and really put some work behind that talent this school year," Critz explained to the board members. "There are great experiences that come from those three days working under a college band concert director rehearsing eight hours a day."
Pharis recently performed the national anthem at the opening of a local basketball game recently, as well as at the February board meeting.
