Wayne County Middle School Academic Team receives Hume Sportsmanship Award
The Wayne County Middle School Academic Team were pleased to receive the Kathryn Hume Sportsmanship Award by their peers in the Governor’s Cup Academic Competition.
The three schools they competed with at the district level – Russell County, Casey County, and Somerset Christian – voted for the Wayne County Middle School to receive the award. Wayne County Middle School hosted the first level of the competition.
“This award means more than any other award we could have received,” noted WCMS Academic Team Coach Angela Stinson. “Having good sportsmanship shows maturity, respect and class. This makes my heart proud and is a wonderful representation of Wayne County Middle School.”
The middle school team began their competition season in January at district competition, followed up with regional competition in February. The team practiced for the district after school one day a week this semester. They did not have a Future Problem Solving Team this year, but competed in Quick Recall and Written Assessment subject areas.
Four middle school students advanced to regional competition, which was held at Science Hill. Each of the local students represented different subject areas which included: Taylor Hicks placed second in Arts and Humanities, Trey Powell was third in Science, Jakob Brammer was fifth in Math and Brayden Lowe placed fifth in Social Studies.
Academic Team members that benefitted from their participation in the extra-curricular activity included: Brayden Lowe, Brayden Church-Stinson, Jakob Brammer, Collin Barnes, Phoenix Guffey, Gracie Hollars, Jillian Neal, Jesse Stephens, Audrey Humphries, Taylor Keith, Carrie Malone, Trey Powell, Landyn Beck, Ainslee Dolen, Taylor Hicks, Micah Simpson, and Ashley Smith.
