WC Golf Team wins third team victory

Champions again at London Country Club last weekend! Golf team surprised Coach Stewart Gregory with orange shirts in honor and support of him fighting kidney cancer!

Congratulations to Gehring Sexton who shot 69 finishing second in the Montgomery Invitational! Our golf team tied for second with another impressive score of 301! cardinal proud! Keep working gentlemen!


Wayne County Golf Team won its third team victory at London Country Club this past weekend,
September 7, in London, Kentucky, riding its talented veterans to the ninth team title in the last two
Wayne County was lead in scoring by Sophomore Gehrig Sexton, who shot an impressive 75 and
the team shot a 309 total, defending their South Laurel Invitational Championship. Wayne County has
won this year at Eagles Nest Country Club, in the Somerset Invitational, and at Arlington Country Club, in
the Model Laboratory Invitational. Senior golfer Reese Sexton led the way with an individual
championship at Arlington Country Club, tying a school record low round with a 68.
Senior Kameron Gehring and Sophomores Gage Gregory, and Aaron Hesse have supported the
Cardinals team with very solid play. Both Kameron Gehring and Gage Gregory are looking to establish
career low stroke averages this year in tournament play. Kameron Gehring has recorded three top ten
finishes, Gage Gregory has been the region’s most consistent four man, and Aaron Hesse has solidified
the five man spot in his first varsity year.
The Wayne County Cardinals are currently ranked eighth in the state and both Reese Sexton and Gehrig
Sexton are making a push for All-State selection. The Cardinals will continue their push to a region title
with upcoming tournaments in Mt. Sterling, KY; Richmond, KY; and the Kentucky Golf Coaches’
Showcase in Lexington, KY at the University of Kentucky Golf Club.
