Wayne County High School Class of 2019 members Rachael and Renee Allen recently
attended the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference (NLC)
in San Antonio, Texas.
Rachael and Renee both participated in the NLC as competitors representing Kentucky
FBLA. They were among 350 members, advisers, and guests from Kentucky FBLA and a total of
12,000 attendees from around the world at the NLC. FBLA members from across the United
States, Puerto Rico, China, and several African nations were representing their chapters at the
While at the conference, Rachael and Renee took online testing for their respective
events, attended Opening Session and National Officer Campaign rally, FBLA Southern Region's
campaign and recognition session along with voting session, and were able to do a little
sightseeing along San Antonio’s famous Riverwalk, the Market Square district, and tour The
Alamo among other sights.
“NLC was a great way to wrap up an amazing club that I have grown to love. It was
incredible to see so many others who were a part of the same organization coming together to
compete and network with one another,” said Renee.
Her sister Rachael added, “FBLA allowed me the opportunity to learn how to be a leader
and gave me the confidence I need for my future career. Attending NLC allowed me to meet
kids from across the US and learn how important that club is.”
The twins are the daughters of Rob and Jill Allen. Rachael will be attending WKU and
majoring in Biology. She plans on becoming a pediatrician. Renee is planning to attend EKU and
will be pursuing a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education.
The local FBLA organization based at the Area Technology Center is sponsored by Dana
Hurd and Rob Allen. This past school year the club had 35 members. At the Kentucky FBLA
Conference in April, there were 12 competitors from Wayne County FBLA. A total of five
students qualified or were invited to attend the National Conference as competitors.
Ultimately, Rachael and Renee Allen were the only ones from Wayne County to attend.
“Being able to attend the NLC as an adviser and father of two competitors was a great
way to end a great year for Wayne County FBLA,” said ATC Teacher Rob Allen. “This past year
has proven to be a very active year both in local activities completed by the chapter and our
academic competitions. At our Regional Conference in March, members earned the most
honors and awards in several years. At the State Conference, five members earned honors in
seven different events.”
