Clerical Training updates staff's skills

Clerical Training

The front line professionals who work in the principal's office at each school are very important employees. Like teachers, they serve students and families in a valuable way. So, they participate in summer trainings just like the certified staff to keep their skills updated.

Wayne County School District clerical staff attended their training meeting on June 22nd at the local Extension Services Office. The meeting was introduced by a cooking class featuring Extension Service Food Specialist Gaye Hutchinson. The class was designed to benefit the busy worker on the go, so they could create meals quickly. The food made in the session provided a delicious lunch for later.

The clerical staff updated their knowledge on how to use Microsoft Word in correlation with their Outlook email. Sharon Fields, KEDC, taught a class on mail merge using Word and building email contact groups in Outlook. Fields also instructed a class on basic professional correspondence and professionalism.

"You are the face of the company (school district)," mentioned Fields to the clerical staffers. "What you say and do matters," regarding how your school is perceived by the public and the families you serve.

After lunch, Dr. Jeff Smith, a local chiropractor, taught a session on ergonomics. Smith stressed the importance of moving around once in a while and how sitting inappropriately could greatly influence your health negatively. Smith provided tips and tricks to sitting correctly.

Ending the meeting, Johnny Chaplin, Federal Program Director and I.T. Coordinator, explained the specific navigation of the school district's website and how beneficial the website can be. Chaplin also spoke about data security and the importance of staying on a secure website.
