JROTC Raiders earn first place overall at Pike County Central Raider meet

Wayne County JROTC Raiders earned first place overall competing against six other schools on Saturday, March 9. The Raiders won first place finishes in three different categories and a second place finish in one category which earned them the first overall trophy for the meet.

The day started out cold, foggy and wet but the Wayne County Raiders heated up quickly as the competition began with a standard three event Army Physical Fitness Test. “We really dominated on the PT Test,” was the comment the ten member team all seemed to share as they completed two minutes of pushups, two minutes of sit-ups, and a two mile run. Cadet Logan Vaughn maxed all three events and earned a PT Medallion for his performance as top scoring male cadet. Cadet Corporal Leah Ramsey also won the Top PT award for female cadets and was presented a medallion, as well.

Seven of the other team members also maxed either the pushup, sit-up or two-mile run event and five of them maxed two events. “All great scores by our Raider Cadets,” said Team Commander Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Martin.

After the APFT the team completed the Ammo Can Carry, the Obstacle Course, and One Rope Bridge Events earning first place finishes in all events except the Obstacle Course where the team was beaten by a mere 13 seconds. Had they won this event the Cardinal Raiders would have swept all four events for the meet.

Cadets competing in the Raider events include: Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Martin, Cadet Major Ethan Morrow, Cadet Second Lieutenant Malachi Brown, Cadet Captain Ziyon Deboer, Cadet Master Sergeant Nathan Baber, Cadet First Sergeant Daniel Ward, Cadet CPL Zeth Denney, Cadet Private Jacob Hill, Cadet Lance Sherman, Cadet Corporal Leah Ramsey, and Cadet Logan Vaughn. The team was supported by Alternate Team members: Cadet Madison Johnson, Cadet Drew Buswell, Cadet Private Second Class Mason Lewis, and Cadet Second Class Luis Quejanio.

Congratulations to a great team of outstanding cadets. Their instructors are proud of them and how they represented their school.
