The Wayne County High School Boys Cross Country Team advances to the state competition this coming weekend on November 3rd as a result of their finishes at the Region 5 Class AA Championship held Saturday, October 27th, which was hosted by Wayne County at Cave Lake Event Park. There were 41 schools/teams represented at the competitive event. There were six races divided into three classes – A, AA, and AAA. The event was coordinated by Wayne County Athletic Director Kevin Jones, who also serves as the cross-country coach. The huge event took a number of local volunteers to help facilitate the regional competition. The Wayne County High School Boy’s Team finished fourth out of 12 teams in the Class AA event. Senior runner Orie Roysdon placed tenth out of 81 runners, with a time of 17:50 leading the local team. Junior Jacob Morgan placed 15th with his best time of 18:43. The rest of the team members placed in the following order: Junior Nathan West was 18th with a time of 19:05, 8th grader Nathan Smith was 28th turning in a time of 19:44, Junior Adam Sawyer was 50th with a time of 21:13, 7th grader Cade Foster was 64th with a time of 22:14, and 8th grader Seth Flynn was 74th with a time of 23:25. Wayne County Girl’s Runner Faith Flynn had a time of 27:15 placing 43rd out of 59 runners, however the middle school runner did not qualify. On October 20th, Wayne County Schools hosted the Fifth Annual Fall Classic at Cave Lake Event Park with local elementary, middle and high school runners competing with cross country runners from other area schools. Since the local boy’s team qualified at Super Region, they will be traveling to Lexington this coming Saturday to run at 11:30 a.m. at the KY Horse Park for the State Championship.
