Wayne County Schools are eager to begin another school year and look forward to seeing students on August 19th. COVID continues to be a concern for our community and our schools. The district will continue to follow the advice of local, area, and state health department officials in making decisions with regard to student and staff safety.
Currently, Wayne County Schools has no plans to require masks for any student or staff member. While the most recent public health guidance recommends masks for anyone not vaccinated, the district realizes that not all families have the same situation. Wayne County Schools encourages parents and students to discuss their own circumstances and make a personal decision about masking. The district will support those who choose to wear a mask for their own protection, as well as the protection of others.
Wayne County Schools also encourages families to consider vaccination for those students who are eligible (age 12 or older). The district and their health care partner, Healthy Kids Clinic, will provide opportunities at school for those families that choose to do so.
It is important to stress that all decisions regarding COVID are subject to change on short notice based on local infection rates as well as state regulations and mandates. We encourage parents and students to prepare now for possible changes. Parents of students not currently eligible for vaccination, as well as those who choose not to be vaccinated, should especially be prepared for changes regarding wearing masks.
