Welcome to my web page!  My name is Nancy Sawyer, and I am a third grade teacher at Monticello Elementary. I began teaching in 1986 and over half of that time has been in third grade. I am married to James Sawyer, optometrist at Sawyer Eye Care. We have lived in Wayne County all our lives and enjoyed raising our family here.

Always feel free to contact me in any of the following ways:

School phone: 606-340-3900

Home phone: 606-348-8869 ( leave a message if no answer )

Look for a weekly newsletter in your child's folder. You will find information on what your child is learning in Reading and Math as well as Spelling and Vocabulary words to study. Monticello Elementary also sends home a newsletter about once a month with school wide information and upcoming events.

Each student has a folder they bring home each night.  One pocket is labeled "KEEP".  Any papers in this pocket should be removed and kept at home.  The other pocket is labeled "RETURN".  PLEASE be sure to leave these papers in the folder after you have looked at them.  They will be needed in class the next day.

See the HOMEWORK insert sheet in your child's folder for homework each night.  Students usually have time to complete daily assignments in class. Anything not finished becomes homework. If your child is having a lot of homework, they may not be using their time in class, or they may be having difficulty understanding.

AR counts 10% of their Reading grade.  So, AR is important. Students need to read every night for 20 minutes ( library books, reading textbook, or books from home). They have time everyday in class to take AR tests. Check with your student weekly to see how many points they have. Most books they read are only 0.5 point as long as they score 100% on the test.

Weekly newsletter will give information on weekly math concepts.

Multiplication Facts:   1st nine weeks  0-3   2nd nine weeks  4-6     3rd nine weeks   7-9

Each Friday - Spelling Tests over weekly list

Each Friday - Reading Test - Students will be required to apply reading, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling skills they have learned that week.

**If your child is absent on a Friday, they need to be prepared to makeup the tests when they return.
