• Alert:

    Wayne County will resume in-person classes on Monday, September 28 on an alternating schedule.  In-person students will be assigned to attend school on either Red (Monday & Wednesday) or White (Tuesday and Thursday) days.  All other days will be virtual days.  Expect communication from your child’s teacher regarding their assignment by the end of the day on Tuesday, September 22nd. Arrangements will be made for all members of the same household to attend on the same days.  Students who chose the full-time virtual option will continue with virtual instruction.

Want to read to Winston??

Each month a selected group of students from each grade at Monticello Elementary, who have shown
achievement in their school's monthly reading challenge, will get to read to
Winston! He REALLY LOVES it when kids read to him and he is excited to
meet you! Work hard, enjoy reading, and maybe YOU can earn an
appointment to read to Winston!!!

Monthly Challenges

August- Reading every day with interest during LTR (Love to Read) time
September- Able to read all prescribed sight words fluently
October- Making improvements in fluency skills
November- Demonstrating good discussion skills in literacy groups
December- 10 students from each grade level who have the
highest AR points and percentages for this half of the year
January- Making improvements in answering basic comprehension
February- Making improvements in answering extended response
March- Accelerated Reader level has gone up at least one grade level since
the beginning of school
April- Spring Reading MAP score is in proficient range for student’s grade level
May- 10 students from each grade level who have the highest
AR points and percentages for the whole year
