Study Down Under trip recognized at September Board of Education meeting

Life From Down Under

On Tuesday, September 11th, the Wayne County Schools Board of Education met at Central Office. The biggest item on their agenda was recognizing the attendees of the 2018 Journey Down Under Travel Study Tour. Two chaperones – including GT coordinator Jennifer Chaplin, who organized the trip for Wayne County – and four students went on the tour. They joined with three other small school groups for a total of 35 attendees.

Chaplin spoke at the meeting. With her came two of the students who traveled with them – Kori Guffey, a WCHS senior, and Mia Phillips, a WCHS freshman. Mia’s mother, Jennifer Owens, and two other students participated as well. The students not in attendance at the meeting were WCHS graduate Emily Meeks and WCHS senior Hannah Jordan. The group traveled around New Zealand and Australia. They experienced a variety of cultures, natural landscapes, beautiful architecture, and native wildlife.
