The November Board Meeting featured student success stories. The Middle School and High School has recently been very influencial and successful. WCMS reading classes have had the privalege to attend the movie premiere Wonder and then compare and contrast the book to the movie. TTAI video contest winners Tanner Thompson and Bailey Wright were asked to come talk to the board about their trip with TTAI to Louisville and their experiences at the Workforce Readiness Conference.
Angela Stinson's Reading classes at WCMS read the book Wonder. The movie and book tells the inspiring story of a boy named Auggie Pullman, born with facial differences tht have prevented him from going to a mainstream school. The story revolves around acceptence and embracing differences that we cannot control. Ms. Stinson and several of her students shared their experience including: Cade Foster, Zach Burris, Madyson Patton, Breanna Stephenson, Dorian Dixson and Abel Sanchez.
The KY FAME (KY Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) program is a good illustration of how teachers are working hard to shift gears, so students have skills to make them more competitive in the area job market. WCHS Teachers Brenda Hoover, Tim Withers, Jared Criswell, Robin Smith, Angela Morrow, Jamie Foster, and Amie McWhorter participated in a week-long externship at American Woodmark, TTAI and the Cooper Power Plant. It was an eye-opening experience for the teachers and now they have become advocates for KY FAME and are incorporating it into their classrooms in hopes of reaching students who can benefit from future job and educational opportunities offered.
As a result of their experience, the district video production department under the guidance of Tim Withers produced a student video starring Bailey Wright and Tanner Thompson, which was the statewide winner for the high school level! Bailey and Tanner shared their experience going to Louisville and being part of a statewide business conference where they accepted a $500 check for the school. Freshman Academy Teacher Brenda Hoover spoke on behalf of the KY FAME teachers explaining what an advocate they have become for KY FAME, and how they are spreading the word about this program to their students.
