The Cards have been on a mission since their only loss of the season to Boyle. They have torn through 5 straight opponents, averaging 44 points per game, holding opponents to just 12 points on average, and claiming the #2 spot in 4A. The past 2 wins were district games, versus Knox Central and Russell County. The Cardinals beat Knox 51-28, and defeated Russell County 45-8.

The matchup with Knox was not only a district matchup, but a top 10 battle. The game started closely contested, as both teams scored a touchdown. Score 7-7. However, Knox was no matchup for the Cards, as the Cardinals put up 44 unanswered points and buried the Panthers. The rushing attack for Wayne County was fantastic as 3 players rushed for over 70 yards. The big story in this win was Senior Stetson Simpson’s stat line. He set the school record for receiving yards, recording 6 receptions for 237 yards and 3 touchdowns! Congratulations to Stetson and the Cardinals!

The Cards were fired up for the Russell County game as well. Last season, the highly touted Cardinals were tested mightily by the Lakers. That was not the case this year. The offense got off to a slow start, but caught traction throughout the game. Senior RB German Ruiz had an awesome night running the ball. He rushed for 135 yards and 3 TD’s. Cagen Wallace and Lorenzo Linsey both scored a rushing touchdown, while Stetson Simpson caught the lone receiving touchdown from Linsey. Junior WR Aubrey Weaver led receivers with 8 receptions for 125 yards. The defense hung tough allowing 0 points. Kobe Brumley and Clay Shelton led the D with 11 tackles apiece. Bryce Howard snagged an interception as well. Fantastic team effort to bring home a comfortable win!

Wayne County will enjoy a week off, as they go into their open week. They play a solid Madison Southern team, at home, October 28th. This is the regular season finale, and Senior Night! Start time is 7:30 p.m.. Come out and support your Cards!
