Wayne County Blanks Rockcastle In District Matchup

WCHS Wins game!

It was war from the onset. From the opening kickoff the Cards took it to the visitors. The first half was a battle of the defenses; the second half was all Wayne County. The score ended up 27-0, as the #2 team in AAAA spanked the #5!

The game at Jewell Field on Friday, September 29th was voted LEX18’s Game of the Week. Fans and players alike were fired up this game. Perhaps, running through WC’s banner added fuel to the already flaming hot Cardinal fire. Here came the Cards.

The opening kickoff set the tone for the game as Wayne County flew down the field like wild banshees. They swarmed to the football, meeting the returner head on. The first drive for Rockcastle ended quickly with a punt. Wayne County moved the ball well and put 3 points on the board. The score would remain this way until the 3rd quarter, as the defenses prevailed.

Wayne County received the kick in the second half and immediately set to work. They put up 21 straight points on the board with touchdowns from Stetson Simpson, Cagen Wallace, and Lorenzo Linsey. All of these scores were capped off with Riley Woods’ extra points. The 4th quarter saw Wayne put the cherry on top with another Wood’s field goal making the score 27-0. Meanwhile, the Cardinal defense was holding strong. Holding Rock to absolutely 0 points, and about half the rushing yards they were averaging per game throughout the year. Cardinal Linebackers Clay Shelton and Chris Dunagan put up an astounding 22 tackles apiece. That’s 44 combined tackles!

A big congratulations to the entire Cardinal football team, as they played and won with class over a tough Rockcastle team! Good luck on the rest of the season men!
