2018 12th Region Hall of Fame Inductees

Wayne County Schools Superintendent Wayne Roberts

Wayne County Schools Superintendent Wayne Roberts was recently inducted into the 2018 12th Region Hall of Fame. He and a Monticello School former athlete were amongst a dozen individuals who were recognized during the KHSAA Boys Basketball Regional Tournament. Roberts was nominated for the award by his home school. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a contributor, during a halftime ceremony at the Boys Regional competition hosted by Pulaski County.  

The Hall of Fame Inductees are voted on by the schools based in the original 12 th Region District. Roberts was recognized in front of the crowd for being the public address announcer for  numerous District and Regional Tournament games, as well as being the official public announcer for Wayne County basketball for the last 31 years. Debbie Ranson, of Laurel County, was the other contributor inductee. She handled all clerical duties for the coaches association for the first twelve years of the Hall of Fame. The remainder of the inductees were very accomplished basketball players from the 12 th Region. In particular, former Monticello High School player Bobby Morris, was represented by his son, Chuck Morris. Morris scored 1,156 points in his career at Monticello Independent. Two-time all Region, fifteenth leading scorer in Monticello School history. He led the Trojans to the 1956 State Tournament. Other stand out former players included: Jeff Singleton from Lincoln County, Mark Butcher from Casey County, Ish Tylor from Burgin, Paul Bingham from Jessamine County, Edward “Butch” Jointer from East Jessamine, Vince Bingham from West Jessamine, Ty Proffitt from South Laurel, Jason Gullett of Pulaski County, and Walt Allen from South Laurel.
