Wayne County Cross Country Teams showing progress at the midpoint of their season. The Cross Country program has teams at every level making progress competitively and learning how to be fit.
On Saturday, September 23, Cardinal runners participated in the tenth annual Wayne County Invitational at Cave Lake. There were 21 schools represented at the local athletic event. Parents and local running enthusiasts volunteered much of their time Saturday to help host the event. They will definitely be on hand for the Super KHSAA Regional Championship on October 28 when an even bigger crowd of schools and their supporters will travel to Wayne County.
“I was pleased how we ran Saturday,” said Cross Country Coach Kevin Jones. “The high school boy’s team placed fifth out of 12 teams. Our girl runner, Nicole Hesse, was 11 th out of a field of 80 runners. Nathan West placed fifth out of 117 runners.” The elementary boy’s team finished second and the elementary girl’s team was first. They are coached by local runners Nisha and Greg West. They are working with children who enjoy running and encouraging them to learn the sport that will feed into the middle and high school teams coached by Kevin Jones.
Next weekend, the high school runners will be at the Greater Louisville Classic EP Tom Sawyer Park where they will get to watch college runners from major universities compete in the morning before their competition. “Our kids will get to see some of the best runners in this part of the country,” explained Coach Jones.
The next home meet will be held October 21 at Cave Lake. The Fall Classic will be the last regular season meet on the schedule, so the public is encouraged to attend and get a first hand look at local athletes.
