Wayne County students and all school staff will get a little extra holiday break next week, taking a week away from classwork for Thanksgiving.(Also, check out the Wayne County Schools Recap and Governor's restrictions inside)

Hot Thanksgiving meals delivered to students' homes Fall decoration picture

Schools do not just deal with academics. They are a community that provides a wealth of services to children and their families. Even though all of the students are currently home studying remotely, the district did not want their students to miss an annual school event that everyone looks forward to in the fall.

   Wayne County Middle School is reaching out to parents by providing a series of Parent Skill Building Sessions to help them navigate their child’s virtual learning at home. They did not get any parent responses from the parent session to be held at Monticello Elementary on Thursday, November 19th at 4:00 p.m. so that event is cancelled. However, the second session for the middle school will have participants on Friday (November 20) at 10 a.m. in the media center. Google Classroom will be one of the topics to better familiarize parents with their childrens' work.

Don't miss out on some great food options for your child Pizza flyer

The Nutrition Service Department is providing food to youngsters with some creative ideas for recipes to make at home. They are excited to announce the addition of weekend meals, with a flyer on how to prepare popular options like pizza, for instance. The weekly Friday pick-up service offers curbside distribution behind the middle school from 10 to 4:30 p.m. In addition, food items are being sent home with students who have fallen behind that drop in for tutoring sessions during virtual days. The staff are constantly trying to make sure the children of Wayne County are not going hungry during the pandemic.

The community is invited to take advantage of a Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing pop-up site today, November 18th from 9:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the old Central Office Building at 1025 South Main Street. The Healthy Kids Clinic, which partners with the local school district, is providing the convenient service for the school staff, as well as the community. 

Marsha Bertram named Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year Marsha Bertram receives her award

       Wayne County Schools congratulates WC Area Technology Center Teacher Marsha Bertram on being named the Monticello Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year. She recently attended a luncheon ceremony held during the local Chamber of Commerce meeting. She was amongst several local individuals who were recognized by the Chamber of Commerce for their contributions.
