     Leah Turner was selected to share her classroom work through the Kentucky Reading Project at a conference in Lexington, KY and another in Austin, TX. Turner incorporated historical context with literature when her classroom read Candy Bomber by Dr. Diana Porter of Eastern Kentucky University.

Candy Bomber is a Orbis Pictus non-fiction award winner that makes history interesting for children. Turner, a former history teacher, used this book to humanize a historical era to her middle schoolers with the help of William Inman, a former JROTC instructor who flew supplies into Soviet East Berlin.
