WCMS Academic Team Wins District Governor's Cup

group photo

Congratulations to the Wayne County Middle School (WCMS) Academic Team on winning District Governor’s Cup on January 20th at Casey County. The WCMS team was proud to lead with host Casey County Middle School placing second, followed by Russell County Middle School in third place.

Governor’s Cup Academic Competition is the ‘icing on the cake’ after students study and compete in league play during the fall semester. On Monday, January 29th the team will compete at Meece Middle School for Future Problem Solving and Written Composition. Then on Saturday, February 3rd, the Quick Recall Team and Written Assessment Team will compete.

“This year, students really put practice time to work. Holding our own summer camp through the 21st Century Program, really helped students with many concepts they were either not familiar with and/or did not understand,” said WCMS Academic Coach Johnette Warner.

“I think this was part of the reason we had so many students place this year. Almost every student who competed in individual events, placed. I am so happy for these kids….they earned it and deserve it.”

We had an awesome team this year,” said Coach Warner.

Hopefully, there will be numerous local competitors that have a shot at advancing to state competition.
