Bats Cards in the midst of their winning season
The 2022 Wayne County Baseball team looks to defend their seventh District Tournament Championship in school history. After ending the 2021 season as one of the best in program history with their fourth 20 win season, the Bat Cards return all but 3 players. Coach Josh Bartley feels that his team has a chance to duplicate their success in 2022. So far they are experiencing a winning season with a record of 12-6.
“This team has a lot of potential. Our guys got to experience some success last season and have really put the work in this offseason to build on it. We have a lot of returners who gained valuable experience last season after losing the 2020 season due to Covid.”
Some key returners are seniors Jayden Keith and Renan Dobbs who were selected to the 12th Region’s All-State Watchlist, along with Senior Andrew Brammer, Trevet Smith, Juniors Malachi Brown, Kason Pitman, and Kamryn Hancock. Sophomore Dylan Tucker also returns after starting several games as a freshman.
The Bat Cards are coached by Josh Bartley, it’s 10th season with the baseball team (4 seasons as an assistant coach, entering 6th season as head coach, 2020 season lost due to Covid). His head coaching record is entering the 2022 season 70 wins / 59 losses, 2021 District Champions.
