Three Wayne County Cross Country runners set themselves apart by placing first in their age divisions at the local Cross Country course just off KY 90. Congratulations to WCMS eighth grader Emily Shearer, WCMS eighth grader Caleb Sargent, and Monticello Elementary fourth grader Zane Upchurch for leading the packs in their races during the annual Cave Lake Fall Classic on October 16.
Not only did Caleb Stinson win the 3KRun in a time of 11:49:71, but his teammate, seventh grader Taren Jones placed third with a time of 12:12.32. In the girls category, Emily Shearer ran in a time of 13:55.20. The middle school boys brought home a second place team finish with an average of 12:55.14. Those participating on the boys middle school team are: Caleb Sargent, Taren Jones, Kru Abbott, Colson Vaughn, and Skylar Jackson.
At the popular elementary level, Zane Upchurch ran the 2000 meter boys race in 6:26.51. Third grader Ryker Parmley was on his heels placing third with a time of 6:35.81. The boys team placed third with an average time of 7:08.54.
In the girls 2000 meter race, fifth grader Jenna Sexton placed third with a time of 7:21.91, followed by fifth grader Braylee Kidd who placed sixth with a time of 7:31.60. The girls team also placed third with an average time of 8:13.38.
Emily Shearer placed first in the Girls 3K run at the middle school level.
First place WCMS Boys winner Caleb Sargeant showed off his trophy the Running Cards brought home.
