Due to a decreased incidence rate of COVID, masks are optional at Wayne County Schools.
As of October 28, the Lake Cumberland District Health Department reports the seven day average incidence rate for COVID cases in Wayne County is 36.5. Two weeks ago the rate was 46.37 and then dropped to 32.3 the next week.
Therefore, the Board of Education’s benchmark of 50 will allow those wishing not to wear masks, to be allowed to do so inside the school buildings. While masks are optional, those wishing to wear them, will be supported and encouraged.
The weekly incidence rate will continue to be monitored and if the cases rise, masks will be required if the rate exceeds 50.
Masks will continue to be required on the school buses due to federal regulations. In addition, students and staff at the Wayne County Area Technology Center will also be required to wear masks, due to their state guidelines.
