The Cardinals had six tournament victories this year including the 10th Region Championship and finishing ninth in the state. The selection marks the first selection for Freshman Gehrig Sexton and also marks the first time a freshman has been selected for Wayne County. Gehrig Sexton had two individual tournament wins along with a school record low 68 at Shady Hollow Golf Course in Cub Run, Kentucky.
It was also a first time selection for Junior Kameron Gehring in only his third year as a Wayne County golfer. Gehring was a strong performer for the Cardinals in 2018, solidifying his rotation on the team with several top ten-tournament finishes.
Junior Reese Sexton was named 10th Region golfer of the year with a 1st Team All-State selection and establishing several school records. Wayne County’s Stewart Gregory was named 10th Region Golf Coach of the Year. Gregory led the Cardinals to its most successful season in school history. Aside from the many individual honors the Cardinal golfers received, the team set school records in tournament wins, stroke average, tournament low scores, and the lowest regional championship score in team history.
The Wayne County Cardinals golf team also finished the 2018 season with a ranking of ninth in the state.
