Wayne County Volleyball Season Prospers

Girls show off their numbers

The Wayne County Volley Cards have had a very successful season so far this year. As of right now, their season record is 4-1. This passed weekend, August 26th and 27th, the Lady Cards played in the Boyle County Invitational. Wayne County took home the second place trophy from a super close game against Thomas Nelson in the championship game.

So far, the Volley Cards have faced Rockcastle County, Garrard County, Green County, South Laurel, and North Laurel for seasonal play. For the Boyle County Invitational tournamet, the Lady Cards played in the championship game and came up short but not with out a fight. The volleyball team is looking up for this season. They are ready to keep climbing up the ladder.

"We are in a good position at this point in our season. We are settled into our rotations based on the tempo we want to run and everyone on the team has bought into the system and their role. Our grestest strength is our unity and the ability of playing with a huge ammount of energy and intensity. The only concern for us is that we need to continue to become mentally tougher. Particularly in situations where the game is running point for point and learning how to put opposing teams away rather than taking sets off, letting the game drag on," said Head Volleyball Coach and Wayne County Alumni, Sandra Baker.

The team is coninuing to grow closer and forming bonds that will stay with them on and off the court. Their eyes are set on winning the District Tournament and Region Tournament. If you are intested in watching the Volley Cards, look on the Wayne County School District Website's Virtual Calendar!
