Literacy Bell Ringing Parade held at Bell Elementary First graders in Autumn Bertram and Megan McCutchen's room

First and second grade students marked their success in reading with a ceremonial ringing of the Literacy Bell at Bell Elementary recently. Students who exceeded the set reading levels for their grade were privileged with the honor of ringing the bell. Each student who rang the bell is considered a proficient reader. Every Bell Elementary student has been assessed with the Fountas and Pinell Benchmark Reading Assessment at the beginning and middle of the school year. The assessment gives the educators a "cutting edge" instructional reading level for each child. They read actual books on various levels until they finally reach a stopping point and they get to a "hard" based on running record of the text. The first graders should be reading a level F or higher and second grade whould be at a level L. So, numerous students reached these levels or higher and had fun ringing the bell.
