The Wayne County Varsity Dance Team participated in the Universal Dance Association’s summer dance camp in Panama City Beach, Florida, from June 7-11th. The team sent 15 experienced dancers to learn game routines, technique and team building skills they can use throughout the year. Seniors on the team were invited to audition to be All-American Dancers and have the honor of dancing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. All five seniors on the team received
this honor including: Callie Phillips, Madison Smith, Chelsea Neal, Kali Sloan and Heather Abbott. In the evaluations, judges looked for clean routines, skills and showmanship from the dancers. In the Jazz Performance category, Wayne County received the Superior Blue Ribbon award (highest score available) as a team. Individually, all 15 girls received Superior Blue Ribbons on their routines.
Wayne County also received the overall Superior Trophy for their average of first place wins and a qualification to compete at UDA nationals in Disney World for the upcoming season. The team is coached by Montana Daniels.
