Area Technology Center students in the Business Management class recently took a trip to Winchester, KY, to tour the Ale-8-One Bottling Company.  They began their tour with a short video giving the history of the company, how they got their name, and how the company’s products were discovered and designed.  They also took a look at some of the original equipment and processes they used.

After the video they proceeded into the bottling part of the plant and observed the process that they use today.  They were able to observe the assembly line in action and gained an understanding of the factors of production.

“This trip was a great way to observe many of the factors they’ve been discussing in class concerning product planning and production management,” said ATC Business Management Teacher Dana Hurd.

She explained that they are following up this trip with a group activity to create a list of items needed to plan productions and design a cookie factory.  Some of the items they will need is a company name, a product line, a list of human resources, inventory, and a location.  They will also be drawing the layout of the building and creating a questionnaire to help them in product development and management.
